Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is based on scientific principles that have been demonstrated in research trials to be effective with a wide range or psychological difficulties. Clients and the therapist work in a collaborative manner to identify and understand the client’s difficulties, placing particular emphasis on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. CBT tends to be focused mainly on the present but does address past issues if they are maintaining the client’s current distress or difficulties. CBT is time-limited and goal focused.
